Never Give Up On Yourself
“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” –George Eliot
I’ve never been an overly-negative person, though there have definitely been times throughout my life when I’ve wondered if I should just give up on my goals. To be honest, goals can be scary—because they require us to leave our comfort zone and to put ourselves at risk. Focusing on a specific direction and applying yourself to move forward both take time, energy, and life-investment. There are also trials, errors, learning experiences, and sometimes failure to go along with them as well—and these don’t make things any easier.
All of these are necessary if you want to achieve big things in life—but they can tend to drain optimism and keep us from thinking positively.
If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and wondered if you should just ‘give up’ on that big goal that you’ve been pursuing, then you know exactly what it’s like to doubt yourself. Feeling this way is surprisingly normal, actually—though that doesn’t make it any more pleasant.
From time to time, we all ask ourselves if we’re doing the right things—but it’s important not to let this mindset discourage you so much that you truly do give up on yourself and your goals.
As it turns out, the only way to guarantee defeat is to give up when you don’t really want to. Unfortunately, many people take this road—but you will probably regret it if you do. If you love where you’re going and you don’t feel ‘right’ unless you’re pursuing what you truly love, then odds are good that you’re actually doing something pretty incredible. Odds are also pretty good that you’re doing something that’s right for you.
If you ever feel tempted to give up on your goals, take a good look in the mirror and remind yourself why you started. Remember other jobs and projects that weren’t right for you, and don’t be afraid to dream big. Don’t be afraid to take risks and to create opportunities for yourself. Don’t be afraid to believe in yourself.
But most of all, don’t ever give up on yourself. You’re a truly incredible person, and you have it within you to succeed.
