Hagerty High School9

Oviedo, FL | Seminole County

October 6, 2014

I have already graduated one student from HHS, just started my second daughter's freshman year, and my son will start right behind her. Hagerty is an excellent school. Teachers and students are held to a high standard, and the academic challenges are endless. I am thrilled my children are able to attend HHS.

This school is really bad in my opinion. The staff are irritating and classes are too long because of the block schedule. Many of the teachers don't really care and there is an over emphasis on sports. Time is taken out of the school days for pointless things like pep rallies. To top it off, the custodial staff don't even seem to try the clean the school. For months the bathroom didn't have any soap or paper towels.

A beautiful school with many resources in a great community of involved parents and educators. It's location gives it a rural feel and the community has a passion for both acedemic and athletic excellence.

The staff at Hagerty is wonderful. They're always pleasant and willing to help. It's been a great school for our son, who's a senior this year.

For public education, and in comparison to many other high schools in the state of Florida, Hagerty has consistently proven to be a great school for academics, arts and sports.

A busy, noisy school with many good teachers. A drinking-oriented social life, with some peer pressure to drink. Coaches form cliques. AP offerings overly intense, with a blizzard of worksheets that do not replicated college-level work but are like middle school homework on steroids. Tacky having the stadium named for the principal. Huge contingent of rednecks and a pickup-truck culture.

This is my 5th year of having a student at HHS. Over that time, the growth has been managed quite well. As with any organization--the character of a school starts at the top. At HHS, the principal is Sam Momary. This man has a tireless passion for improving HHS. He is always available, ready to accept criticism, and actively takes a hand in fixing problems at all levels. Even when I disagree with a decision or course of action--I can't help but respect a man who cares more for the school, the students, and the parents than he does for the politics, the bureaucracy, and the board. Thank you, Sam--for all you've done.

"Hagerty appeared to be an excellent school-that is until they switched to a block schedule...." I agree 100% with you. I have subbed a lot at Hagerty and found that when the school switched over to the block scheduling, less curriculum was covered in the same time period. The problem though that this school and many other schools in the state are facing are massive budget cuts. The block scheduling allowed them to give more teachers classes for the same pay without having to hire any more teachers. (They did this out of necessity.) Teachers gained about a class size more of students. Unfortunately, when things like this happen, sometimes quality suffers. However, when compared to other high schools in the area, Hagerty is an excellent school with excellent teachers and a superb administration. Kids really enjoy going here and have a lot of loyalty to their school.

This school is amazazazing!!! This school has one of the best AP programs in the State!!! Also the band program rocks, although we got a new band teacher, because he was from Lake Howell High with one of the top band programs in the state, many people seem to love him!!! It also has amazing teachers and the curriculum is very good which can push the kids for a better education, but is also easy on the students. I recommend coming to this school for its amazingness!!!!!!!!!

Hagerty appeared to be an excellent school-that is until they switched to a block schedule. with this block schedule kids are forced to spend almost two hours in some classes while shorted in some others. None of the teachers seem to know how to work the schedule and it has been very frustrating. There are numerous studies which show that block scheduling is a poor choice, especially for the sciences.

Excellent school. My daughter is taking AP classes, has a 4.5 GPA and will have about a year of college done when she graduates. A Bright Futures full scholarship is virtually assured. We had one serious issue we had to address with the principal, Sam Momary. At first I didn't agree with his plan to resolve it. Reluctantly, I gave him the chance to do it his way. In the end, everything turned out well. He did the best thing for everyone involved.

This school is truly amazing. The teachers are great. The work is challenging but not too difficult. The students don't have many cliques. It's a great school.
